Janine Crist wrote Mary Amazon, a historical fiction novel focused on the lives of Atlanta’s pioneer residents before, during and after the Civil War. Read about the lives of the Mecaslins, Mullins and Maguires as they fight fires (literally and figuratively), fall in love, and figure out the new road ahead of them.
The novel is now available in two formats: Kindle ebook and Amazon paperback. Choose the option that’s best for you!
Here’s more about Janine: Born in Illinois, she has lived in the Atlanta area for most of her life. She’s traveled up and down the roads mentioned in this book many times, commingling her own memories with the characters’ stories.
Her favorite aspect of writing this book has been the moments where she could stand and “be” in the places where these characters lived their lives — Mecaslin once held land where the Grady Memorial Hospital campus now sits, as well as the produce market on Decatur Street where Georgia State University exists. She’s hunted for and found likely sites of the railroad amidst concrete slabs and new buildings and looks forward to finding more.
She has degrees from the University of West Georgia and Georgia State University in counseling and kinesiology. She previously taught middle school in Georgia and worked for the Department of Defense in North Carolina. She’s currently a learning specialist in metro Atlanta.
